The LuLu Gulch Loop, climbed on Monday August 21, 2023 consists of three 13ers: Middle Mountain (13,100 feet), Unnamed 13,462 (13,462 feet), and Brown's Peak (13,523 feet). In the title photo above, which was taken from the summit of Middle Mtn, you can see Unnamed 13,462 (left) and Brown's Peak (right). In the distance is 14er Huron Peak (14,006 feet), which was climbed in 1996. The round trip was 4,100 feet in elevation gain in 8.5 miles. I left the trailhead (10,300 feet) at 6:00 am and returned at 2:00 pm.
Here is Sunday night's campsite
The lower half of the route is an old road, now closed to motor vehicles. This is a typical stretch of it.
Now on the summit of 13,462 here is a shot of the next 13er, Brown's Peak
Now on the summit of Brown's Peak, the third 13er of the day, looking over at 14er Huron Peak.
It's time to head back down, so back to the saddle between here and Unnamed 13,462, then turn left down into the hanging basin...
...where I will link up again with the switchbacks and the road for the return trip.
Looking back at the last two 13ers. I descended Brown's, then turned left into the hanging basin and worked my way over to the switchbacks. The original plan was to descend one of those gullys left to right, but I chickened out on that shortcut. They looked too steep! So I played it safe and returned to the switchbacks.
Approaching the tree line on the way down.
Awww....
Then it was back to the Jeep for the three hour drive home.
